Pre-Season Introduction
by posted 03/06/2020

Welcome Lacrosse Parents and Players,

My name is Amber Buttermore and I will be one of your coaches and organizers for this season. Seacoast Lacrosse is an amazing group. I was lucky enough to coach the girls in K-1 last year and we had a blast! I am a NH certified elementary school teacher for grades k-8 with my M.Ed. Art Integration. I taught 2nd and 4th grade for 11 years so I have a lot of experience with children. I coached for the Girls On the Run program for many years as well. I?m HUGE on kindness and girls supporting other girls and I have the moto, ?it?s always better to be kind?. For me, supporting children and families is a true passion. I am primarily a stay at home mother and I have two daughters, Scarlett and Cosette (Coco). I?m very active in the Portsmouth community as a volunteer in other areas. Both my girls have played lacrosse and have loved the game and have also overcome fears of trying something brand new. This year Peter Latchaw is joining the 2nd Grade Team along with me! I?m so excited to be volunteering along side of him. The two of us together, with our combined experience will be the dream team for coaching.

Here's is Petes message for you.... I grew up playing lacrosse right here on the seacoast and went on to play Division 1 lacrosse in college. I started coaching for Seacast Lacrosse almost 20 years ago for the u14 boys. Then in 2005, I took over Portsmouth Boys Varsity. I remained the boys varsity lacrosse coach at Portsmouth until 2012, when I stepped down to start a girls program in Kittery and continued to coach all age levels of girls in Kittery up until this season. I am very excited to be back coaching for Seacoast. Professionally, I have been an educator on the Seacoast for the past 18 years. I taught for ten years at Portsmouth Middle School and for the past 8 years I have been the principal at Newington Public School.

Our main goal for the season is to get your daughters to fall in love with the sport and just have fun. They will learn the rules of the game and new skills, how to be part of a team and good sportsmanship. And most importantly have fun! We will hold practices on Tuesday/Thursdays from 5-6 at Dondero School field starting around April 6th but that is dependent on the weather. Please arrive on time as we only have an hour and it goes quickly! We will have a quick break in the middle of practice for a snack on Thursdays and time to learn new skills or rules. On Tuesdays they may bring their own snack if they wish. Make sure to use the bathroom before practice as sometimes it?s tricky to get into the school.

The first game will be April 18th and the last game will be June 6th. At some point the girls will be split into two teams and when we travel they may even play against each other which is similar to how k-1 was played. The games will be played against the surrounding local towns, such as Kittery, Hampton, Durham and Dover. As soon as we have a schedule, we will send it out to all the parents. Uniforms: This year when you registered you daughter to play, you should have seen a link to buy a uniform. We are using a new vendor this year and asking everyone to get new uniforms. If you did not get your daughter a uniform, please let me know ASAP as the club did order extras. There is already a list of kids who need them, so please let me know (if you have not done so already) as soon as possible.

Please Please Please let me know if you want to be trained to be a coach. OR if you would like to help out during practices or games. I had some dedicated Moms and Dads last year that helped me immensely and I hope to have them back again this year. We have a lot of people starting new coaching this year. I know some of you may think it is easy to find coaches, but it is NOT..skilled volunteers don?t always come easy. So our next best thing is to train parents. You do not have to know how to play! Some of our best coaches in the past had never picked up a stick, they just had the passion to learn. You just need to know how to have fun, and be willing to learn a new sport (we will teach you). There are ongoing training opportunities this month! We look forward to meeting all of you and your daughters this Spring.

There will be a parent sending out a sign up genius to organize snacks at some point. We always try to have snack provided for the girls on Thursdays and then after games on Saturday mornings. Wow! I think that's it!

Looking forward to another exciting new spring! Warmly, Your Coaches!

Amber Buttermore and Peter Latchaw
